D Type Anchor Shackle
The ‘D’ Type Joining Shackles differ from Kenter Links in their compatibility with the gypsy. Instead, they find extensive use in modern vessels for anchoring the chain to the anchor. Historically, these shackles served a purpose similar to today’s Kenter lugless joining shackle, connecting shackle lengths of cables. When utilised for this task, it’s crucial to position the rounded crown part of the shackle forward to prevent interference with the anchor during deployment. Notably, the orientation of the anchor crown shackle and the ‘D’ joining shackle differs from that of other ‘D’ joining shackles within the cable.
